“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven” Matt. 5:16, NKJV
We Are an Open Letter
In a church effort to invite neighbors to events, many declined due to the presence of an unkind member. This highlights how our actions can impact others' perceptions of God.
The Lord’s Prayer begins with “Our Father in heaven,” showing God’s dual role as Creator and loving Father. We’re reminded that we are like letters that everyone can read (2 Cor. 3:2) and that our actions can either bring honor to God or shame to His name (Matt. 5:13–16).
When praying, start by praising God and focusing on honoring Him rather than just your needs. For instance, pray, “Father, help me honor You in everything I do.” Asking for things that serve God is essential, as 1 John 5:14 assures us that God hears our prayers when aligned with His will.
Praying in Jesus’ name signifies aligning with His character and asking for His will (James 4:3). We should acknowledge God’s glory when prayers are answered and avoid complaining, which misrepresents Him. Instead, we should rejoice always (1 Thess. 5:16; Phil. 4:4) and inspire faith through our words and actions.
A heartfelt prayer could be, “My heavenly Father, help me represent You well today and glorify Your name.”
