Day 3 - Be Specific

“And when you pray, do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do. For they think that they will be heard for their many words. Therefore do not be like them. For your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him”. Matt. 6:7, 8, NKJV

Pray Specifically

Our son, Ovidiu, bought a house at a low price, but it was small and in poor condition. He needed to remodel and expand it, but rising construction costs made him worry he couldn't finish the work.

I encouraged Ovidiu to share his specific needs with God. Instead of praying generally, he should focus on one need at a time. For example, instead of saying, “Lord, save my neighbors,” he might pray for his neighbor John.

After Ovidiu started praying specifically, he looked for a team to dig the foundation for his house. Many teams were booked and quoted prices between $18,000 and $22,000. He managed to negotiate a price of $16,000 with one team, but they did not show up. After waiting, the team leader left, and Ovidiu felt hopeless.

He then prayed for a team to dig the hole quickly and affordably. After finishing his prayer, his neighbor approached and mentioned a team working on his house. Ovidiu asked them, and the team leader offered to do the job for $2,500 since they already had their equipment.

Ovidiu realized that God had prepared an answer and was waiting for him to ask.

“Prayer is the opening of the heart to God as to a friend” (Steps to Christ, p. 93). God wants you to talk openly and specifically with Him. When you trust Him, you will find His answers are always the best.
