The 3rd National Deaf Camp Meeting in Mexico, 2001
by David M. Trexler
Mexican Deaf Campmeeting
Deaf SDA constituents invited Pastor David and Francisca Trexler to be the
featured speakers at the 3rd National Deaf Camp Meeting from July 19 to 22.
Pastor Trexler is currently working the metro Washington, DC area, as well as
serving on the ADM Board of Directors.
The camp meeting was held at the a
Baptist campground about ten miles south of Monclova, Coahuila. Monclova is
about two hours drive north of Monterrey, Nuevo Leon.
Despite the heat, dust,
and insects, more than 50 Deaf individuals from all over Mexico attended the
camp meeting. Pastor Trexler presented, "The Vine and the Branches." His
presentation was given in ASL but translated into Mexican Sign Language by a
deaf member, Javier San- chez from Mexico City. He also translated Francisca's
very popular "Family Enrichment Series." Several deaf members sought counseling
with Francisca during free times. The camp meeting was success- fully planned
and organized by three young members, Omar Moran Almaguer (Deaf), Gabriela
Acosta (Deaf), and Belen Angelica Falcon (Hearing).
Mexican Deaf members are hoping that there will be a 4th National Camp Meeting
for the Deaf next summer. There is a great need for a dedicated deaf worker in
Mexico to nurture the members and to evangelize many cities. The Deaf members in
this country really need our prayers for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit and
for a full-time worker to finish the gospel work.
