Meet New (ADM) Board Member Belinda Simmons
Belinda is the daughter of Emerson and Joan Hodge. She is a CODA and was born in Takoma Park, MD. She grew up in nearby Rockville. After attending Adventist grade school and academy, she attended the University of Maryland, obtaining a degree in Business, with an emphasis in Accounting. In 1988, she passed the grueling CPA exam on her first try!
After working in public accounting for 3 years, Belinda quickly tired of the long "tax season" hours and found a job at the Marriott Corporation where she worked for 11 years.
During this time, she was asked to interpret for a Revelation seminar. Although raised an Adventist, she had left the church. Even though she did not want to interpret for the series, she was strongly impressed that if she said no, she would be saying no to God. The Holy Spirit was working on her heart! Although there were no deaf attendees, Belinda went to every meeting and recommitted her life to the Lord.
She lives in Monrovia, Maryland (not Liberia!) with her husband, Brent who is also a CPA. They currently are in business together, which provides a lot of flexibility for both their schedules. They are both involved with their church's ministry and see the signs that Jesus will be coming SOON!
Currently, Belinda is enrolled in an interpreter preparation program. She enjoys opportunities to fellowship with the Silver Spring Deaf Church. She is very thankful that God gave her such good parents and that she can be involved with Adventist Deaf Ministries. It is her prayer that we all will be ready to meet Jesus when He comes!
